tie rendering

It seems like I can’t resist the gravity of the vast ↵moc- and afol-scene. And thick participation means, among other things, sharing practices. So I followed the comprehensive tutorial ↑Converting LDR Files to POV Files for Rendering by Jeroen de Haan and Jake McKee and then ran my rendition of a ↑TIE Interceptor (which I built first in the flesh, and then with the ↑LDraw-based ↑MLCad) through ↑POVRay. All that reminded me very much of ye olde days of game modding. Here’s how my model (every single part of it stems from the 1970s!) looks in meatspace:  … Continue reading

resurrection

It was decided before it happened. Never would I have left him 4 dead. Nobody is left behind—that’s a maxime. Furthermore there still were signs of life deep within, he had been a faithful comrade for almost five years, and I had built him myself.     Last night, when I switched on my big machine, the LEDs on the optical drives began to flicker. Nothing else. Both screens remained blank. Flat black, nothing of the grey appearing when a TV-set is tuned to a dead channel.     Not even the BIOS came up.     Ladies and Gentlemen, … Continue reading

abaddon machinima

the nine deaths of alex black    Finally the (SLurl:) ↑City of Abaddon—my home—is put to use for what it truly is predestined: ↑machinima making. With permission from ↑Detect Surface writeress ↑Noelani Mahana films “The nine deaths of Alex Black” there, shooting of episode one is said to be completed. I have not talked to Noelani herself yet, but seemingly it all began, when ↑Looker Lumet, who ↑discovered Abaddon in last year’s October, ↑took her there for a photo session. Later a ↑whole set of ↑Alex-Black posters was made. The picture above is a detail from one of the images … Continue reading

simpsonized culture

Rarely do I post pictures of myself, but this occasion just was too outstanding as to allow it to get lost in the darkness of history. Above you can see myself—to the far right—giving a lecture on “The Evolution of Cyberculture” at the University of Springfield. At the moment of the snapshot I was focussing on the transition from two to three dimensions. In order to be able to give that lecture I had to evolutionize myself by means of the ↑Simpsonizer. … Continue reading

cry for mod

Since the day before yesterday I know why by default I am running Windows and not ↑some predator, ↑or a penguin, and why I have got such an ↵ogre of a machine—“↑Crysis“ is the undisputable reason. Although I followed the game’s history since it was announced, I didn’t get around to download the free demo, which is available since 26 October 2007, earlier. So I was a tad late, nevertheless the impact was instantaneous … graphics, physics and gameplay blew me away—to me it’s the greatest computer game experience since “↑Half-Life 2“ (HL2).  Official US-release is today, for Europe … Continue reading

racing track

Note the filling station to the right—straight out of the Gernsback Continuum: “During the high point of the Downes Age they put Ming the Merciless in charge of designing California gas stations.”—William Gibson On 23 August 2007 I spawned at ↑Detect Surface‘s working platform, high in the sky above the (SLurl:) ↑City of Abaddon. Detect was just about to finish the colour-changing head-up display (HUD) for the motorcycle he was constructing since quite some time. When he saw me he asked, if I’d help him and testdrive the bike—I became (SLurl:) ↑D&D Creative Labs‘ testpilot. During testing I duly … Continue reading

zeph in limbo

The AK-1RA Sports by Detect Surface in outer space … this is what may happen if you are too daring in “↑Second Life“ (SL) … you will be catapulted into limbo, then into oblivion. I am proud to be able to state, that I am a testpilot with D&D Creative Labs in the (SLurl:) ↑City of Abaddon. I was on a stunt-test-drive with the brandnew bike, visualized by ↑Detect Surface and scripted by acid Zenith. Suddenly I hit a glitch in the matrix and was blown out into non-space. … Continue reading

massively sculpted

Those are the moments I enjoy fieldwork online to the max. To the left is ↑Detect Surface, creator-god of (SLurl:) ↑Abaddon. He wears something peculiar—Detect: “very first sculptie armour in SL baby :P” Acid and me independently voiced that involuntarily it worked out as a perfect homage to the original Doom-guy. To the right is Yours Truly, wearing work-in-progress, the prototype-head of a full android, somewhat Terminator-style … things to come … and my body is made as skinny as possible, in order to make it fit seamlessly into the android later on. Our conversation in the very moment … Continue reading
