I guess from a doctor’s office (maybe an oculist) or a hospital. But who …?

  • Bryan Alexander Monday, 21st May 2012 at 14:50

    Hint, please.

  • Alexander Rabitsch Monday, 21st May 2012 at 16:38

It´s Philipp Roessler … leaving his surgery and becoming member of the F.D.P. ;)

Yes, Alhambra, it’s a doctor’s office, obviously, but that’s not of great importance. The doctor’s office was just an opportunity to escape. And here are the hints Bryan rightfully asked for: Outside are palm trees and presumably warm water he will dive into. Plus, the actor is one of the greatest stars the Hollywood of the time had.

@Alexander Rabitsch: I love it that for once you don’t recognize the movie right away :)

    *sigh* more pics, please!

Grrrr, no luck. You are a cruel quizzer.

I’m sorry, but I am away at a conference in Cologne, the ‘Clash of Realities’ … from here I don’t have access to my screencap database. I’ll update the post with another screencap as soon as I get back, which won’t be before Saturday noon :-/

Anyway, here is another hint: Warm water and palm trees outside—think about a location with that paradise ambience everybody nevertheless wants to escape from.

Boris Karloff in “Devil’s Island”? Just a shot in the dark … ;o)

  • zephyrin_xirdal Sunday, 27th May 2012 at 08:19

That was a very well aimed shot in the dark, Alhambra, a near miss, very near. By jumping out of that window the protagonist in the screencap indeed begins his escape from Devil’s Island, but it isn’t Boris Karloff, and it’s another movie.
Sorry that I am replying so late and haven’t uploaded any new pictures yet, but I still have problems getting online reliably.

    ‘morning! “Condemned” maybe …?

    • zephyrin_xirdal Sunday, 27th May 2012 at 13:18

No, sorry, it’s not Ronald Colman in ‘Condemned’ (Ruggles 1929) escaping, but a way more prominent moviestar whose name until today rings a bell.

Well, I found two more movies about this island, but I thought it was none of them. One is “We’re no angels” with Mr Bogart (but obviously it’s not black and white, and it’s a comedy), the other is called “Dreyfus”, but I read that the movie was made in the studio and not on Devil’s Island. Got no more ideas …

    Strange Cargo …?

    • zephyrin_xirdal Sunday, 27th May 2012 at 20:09

Congratulations Alhambra, ‘Strange Cargo’ (Borzage 1940) it is. Hence it’s Clark Gable jumping out of the window. I’ll update the post as soon as I’ve got reliable Net connection.
