Robert Wagner in “Beneath the 12 Mile Reef”. He is up to meet the kraken!

First of all, Merry Xmas, Kueperpunk, and welcome back to zeph’s pop culture quiz! That was a great, un-anticipated guess. But I am sorry, no, it’s not Robert Wagner inside the diver’s suit in ‘Beneath the 12-Mile Reef ‘ (Webb 1953). Actually, the man diving in the screencap is an even bigger star than Wagner.

kay, how about Cuba Gooding in “Men of Honor”?

• zephyrin_xirdal Monday, 24th December 2012 at 15:42

Sorry, but no, it neither is ‘Men of Honor’ (Tillman 2000)—with your first guess you were much closer at the correct decade.

It’s Anthony Quinn in “City Beneath The Sea” – the 1953 movie, not the one with all the chicks in super-short and bright coloured skirts from 1971 XD

Oh, Mona, that’s one hell of a guess—quite some work has gone into it, I’m sure. At least we now are in about the correct league of stardom, concerning the lead actor in the diving suit. But no, sorry, it isn’t Anthony Quinn in ‘City Beneath the Sea’ (Boetticher 1953) Here’s a little hint: The man in the diving suit, obviously, is searching for something under the sea, but then finds something entirely different. The surprise find gives him and his people an uncanny idea …

k, after taking a closer look it’s clearly not anthony quinn (on the left in the pic)
that leaves me at a loss especially since your screencap looks way too good next to mine for a 50s or 60s movie if it wasn’t digitally restored or sth ;) is it from a series or a movie?

• zephyrin_xirdal Wednesday, 26th December 2012 at 08:48

That was some fine work again, the comparison picture :) To make that clear: I did not tamper with the picture, except sizing it down, so that it fits in the column of my blog, and except making a .png out of it. But the release I took the screencap of indeed is a digitally remastered one. It is a movie from the ’60s which was released to the cinemas—so, not a TV-movie, -series, or -serial.

Is it eventually a French or rather Italian production?

• zephyrin_xirdal Wednesday, 26th December 2012 at 08:45

No, it’s neither a French nor an Italian production. But then again, there is something Italian …

Time for a new hint!

• Mona Monday, 7th January 2013 at 19:58

it’s frank sinatra in “assault on a queen” (1966) :)

• zephyrin_xirdal Monday, 7th January 2013 at 20:01

This is absolutely correct—congratulations!
