We got no clue, master ;)

    Alexander Rabitsch
Hi there, no. Ain´t no effing clue … xD

  • kueperpunk Thursday, 5th January 2012 at 19:11

I love movie trivias. Might be a 70s or 80s movie.

  • zephyrin_xirdal Thursday, 5th January 2012 at 19:47

All right, I indeed seem to have hit a hard one. I updated the post with a new screenshot—now you at least know what he is watching (I thought you movie buffs would recognize that right away). And Thorsten Küper (himself a cyberpunk author, by the way) in his comment above is right: The movie we’re looking for is from the early 1980s.

  • kueperpunk Thursday, 5th January 2012 at 19:51

It`s indeed a hard one. This doesnt look like a TV screen but a monitor. Okay, first try: “Electric Dreams”.

    • zephyrin_xirdal Thursday, 5th January 2012 at 19:57

Nice try for a first try :-) But, no, I’m afraid, it ain’t ‘Electric Dreams.’ And, yes, it’s a monitor he watches ‘Casablanca’ on.

  • kueperpunk Thursday, 5th January 2012 at 21:20

I think this person is watchingCasablanca in a very unexpected location. Somewhere in space?

    • zephyrin_xirdal Thursday, 5th January 2012 at 21:45

No, not in space. In a way the location is not really unexpected, but it is correct that he is watching ‘Casablanca’ in a place where he is not supposed to watch it. In fact within the story he is not at all supposed to watch movies.

  • Alexander Rabitsch Thursday, 5th January 2012 at 21:24

    It is >>Electric Dreams<< from 1984 ….

  • Alexander Rabitsch Thursday, 5th January 2012 at 21:24

    ??? No? …

    • zephyrin_xirdal Thursday, 5th January 2012 at 21:50

No, it is not ‘Electric Dreams’. Sorry ;-)

  • Alexander Rabitsch Thursday, 5th January 2012 at 21:59

    Damn! xD

  • kueperpunk Thursday, 5th January 2012 at 22:03

    Well known actor?

  • Alexander Rabitsch Thursday, 5th January 2012 at 22:08

    Ethan Hawke appearing?

  • Alexander Rabitsch Thursday, 5th January 2012 at 22:09

    River Phoenix as well?

  • kueperpunk Thursday, 5th January 2012 at 22:09

    Explorers?

  • Alexander Rabitsch Thursday, 5th January 2012 at 22:11

    xD Yeah! That´s what I´m about …..

  • kueperpunk Thursday, 5th January 2012 at 22:12

Actually im thinking about any early 80s movie with a computer screen.

  • zephyrin_xirdal Thursday, 5th January 2012 at 22:12

Yes, I’d say he was (unfortunately no more alive) a quite well known actor, especially for his role in two movies in the early nineties. No superstar, though. And, no, not ‘Explorers,’ hence no Ethan Hawke either :-)

  • Alexander Rabitsch Thursday, 5th January 2012 at 22:16

    *@!?$ !!! xD

  • Mona Thursday, 5th January 2012 at 22:22

Overdrawn at the Memory Bank? Actor watching it would be Raul Julia.
Didn’t actually watch the movie, just a lucky googler :] Searching for the movie once again got me thinking I really should watch Casablanca sometime.

  • kueperpunk Thursday, 5th January 2012 at 22:29

Raul Julia? 80s? Doesnt seem to be sci fi movie?

  • zephyrin_xirdal Thursday, 5th January 2012 at 22:29

Big congratulations, Mona! :D Yes, it is Raúl Juliá as Aram Fingal watching ‘Casablanca’ on his workstation monitor during the opening moments of the 1983 Canadian made for television movie ‘Overdrawn at the Memory Bank’ directed by Douglas Williams, and based on the short story of the same name by John Varley. I’ll update the post with the solution and some more quite interesting (me thinks) information. Will take a bit, though.

  • kueperpunk Thursday, 5th January 2012 at 22:32

    nice, thank you.

    • zephyrin_xirdal Friday, 6th January 2012 at 00:16

You’re welcome—I’ve done the update and maybe will add some more screencaps tomorrow. But anyway, stay tuned: zeph’s pop culture quiz #10 is already scheduled for next Monday!

Read the plot at wikipedia …. very interesting, but makes me more think of Max Headroom. By doing so I´m wondering why good ole Max Headroom isn´t mentioned on xirdalium… 20 minutes into the fu-fu-future …. ;)

  • Alexander Rabitsch Friday, 6th January 2012 at 11:53

D-d-don´t you think-nk-nk Max deserves a bit more? :D I´m a big fan eversince he came on TV and I´m still up until now. I think he was 20 years into the future when he came out. A very interesting concept of preserving a person´s persona in a digital media. The saved >>residual self image. The mental projection of your electronic self<>Neuromancer<<. To me very interesting questions I´m dealing with since I was three or four:"Is it real or am I dreaming?" and so on ….

  • Alexander Rabitsch Friday, 6th January 2012 at 11:56

Epistemology is the only philosophical problem I´m dealing with since I studied philosophy (only Nebenfach, but it became important again in the last 12 years).

Well, in that case you might be interested in the chapter “Neohermeticon” in my old book “Metatrickster” (2004, in German), which you can download in full and completely legal for free.

  • Alexander Rabitsch Friday, 6th January 2012 at 12:52

Oh ! Thx a lot! Gonna check it out soon …. I hope I´ll be able to ask intelligent questions ;)

  • 風露 Friday, 6th January 2012 at 12:52

  • Alexander Rabitsch Friday, 6th January 2012 at 12:54

Oh yes! It´s the Metatrickster-thing! I got one copy already! I recommendet this one already to a couple of people. ….

    hahaha funny one!
Zephś metatrickster is awesome. You gotta be deep into that stuff to write such a good book. And you gotta be a lil freak – but hey, aren’t we all a little bit Bluna? ;) Read it some time ago.
